Spotlight: Perfume Genius - Put Your Back N2 It

Mike Hadreas is a very easy-going man. His first album as Perfume Genius was deceptively slow; it covered so many aspects of loneliness and depression within its eleven tracks that it was hard to take it all in at once. And those who tried to do so hated it. Those who just let it wash over them, however, acclaimed it instead.
Here’s “No Problem”, the first track I ever heard from Perfume Genius, back when he was only just signed to Matador and was bigged-up by the one and only Huw Stephens from BBC Radio 1…
Since that record, Hadreas’ music has gotten far more abrasive in its ideology, if that were possible. It’s still as polarising as ever, only this time probably even more so. A lot of the record is apparently inspired by gay porn.
I kind of wish I was making that up. But it’s word of God, as it were, I promise. The title track is even about gay sex - not entirely sure how that works even now…
Anyway, without further ado, here’s a free download for you. It’s called “All Waters”, and I can’t promise you it’s as innocent as that title suggests. (Click the down arrow on the right of the player to download.)
