About Jossu
Update times
I use ‘we’ to refer to this blog, but in reality it’s just one (scarily busy) person. For that reason you probably can’t expect the blog to be updated on the hour or anything stupid like that. I’ll do my best to keep it fairly constant, though, aiming for three varied posts a day.
MP3 disclaimer
Let me make something crystal clear - I buy music, I respect copyright, and would greatly appreciate you did, too. “But why are you posting all these MP3s?!” Well, basically, I want to spread this fantastic art as far as I can, and as you know, the easiest way to do that is to give you a little sample.
I will, as a rule, only give the very maximum two MP3s by one artist. This is basically so the downloader can get a taste of what they sound like, and, with any luck, look deeper and buy stuff. You can’t expect to sell anything without giving the consumer a sample, and if you’re not big enough to be on radio this is the best option.
That said, if it really does bother you/your management, email me ( hello[at]jossu.co.uk ) and I will endeavour to take it down as soon as I can.
One more thing in this regard - I won’t (and, realistically, can’t) keep them up forever, and will take them down when the server can’t take them anymore (a few months, probably sooner).
Content things
I’m afraid, like a lot of the blogs on the internet, I’m inevitably going to cover the same bands other people will. So basically, while everyone’s covering the new album by, I don’t know, Grizzly Bear or something, chances are I will, too. The only thing I can say is “deal with it”.
As for who we cover, it’s generally indie bands. By that, I mean bands who haven’t hit the big time yet. That said, I’m not fighting a war against big artists. I like them too, but will be less likely to focus on them.
I also like the feeling that I’m somehow helping them, even if very few people are reading this blog. (If you are, then thanks!)
You might also notice some things (particularly news things) are covered by bigger blogs before me - that’s usually because I use them as sources. I’m not an idiot, thus I won’t be copying words verbatim, but I’ll obviously aim to credit.
